You’re interested in a scholarship? There are a variety of different institutions, foundations and sponsorships for gifted students that offer support to students at home and abroad. The following information serves to give you a first impression, the following links serve to aid your internet research on the subject.

STATE-SPONSORED UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS

The 11 scholarship foundations supported by the federal ministry for education and research (BMBF) show fundamental differences. Their principles are characterized by the different ideological, confessional, political, economic- or union-oriented currents/trends. Therefore, the requirements for students vary greatly. Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes
The "Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes" is the largest and oldest German institution offering scholarships to talented students. Free of political, religious or ideological specifications, it offers funding to especially gifted students and doctoral students who stand out because of their strength in performance, tolerant personalities and social responsibility.


Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung e.V.
The CDU-related "Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung" offers stipends to students enrolled at scientific academic institutions, academic institutions for the fine arts and music, or technical colleges. Graduates with honors may apply for a scholarship from the "Deutsche Graduiertenförderung".


Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung
The SPD-related "Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung" aims to enable gifted and socio-politically engaged young people, especially from low-income families or with a migrant background, to study and do research, with the means of a scholarship. Students from all subject areas at state universities or state-recognized institutions may apply.


Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung für die Freiheit
The "Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung" considers itself to traditionally be the foundation for liberal politics in the German Federal Republic and is related to the FDP. The foundation aims to support liberal academic successors ideationally and materially. The scholarships are available to students from all subject areas, there is no age limit.


Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung
German students may apply for a scholarship from the CSU-related "Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung" until the age of 32. They must be enrolled at a scientific academic institution, an academic institution for the fine arts and music, or a technical college in the Federal German Republic.


Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung
The "green" "Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung" supports students and doctoral students in all subjects, and is currently specifically furthering funding for students in the areas law, economics, natural sciences and engineering. It especially names students with a migration background and women as a target group.


Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung
The Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung is close to the party DIE LINKE. The foundation, given comparable performances and social engagement, favours women, people in need of social welfare and people with disabilities. Students and doctoral students in natural sciences or technical subjects are especially encouraged to apply.


Hans-Böckler-Stiftung
The "Hans-Böckler-Stiftung" is the foundation for codetermination, research and scholarships of the German federation of trade unions. Students in all subjects, high school graduates and school pupils in the Abitur classes can apply for scholarships via specific selection procedures. Children from migrant families are especially encouraged to apply.


Stiftung der Deutschen Wirtschaft
In its scholarship foundation "Klaus Murmann" the "Stiftung der Deutschen Wirtschaft" suports students and doctoral students from all subject areas and universities that show management potential in economy and society. The foundation is politically and confessionally independant and is supported by business assocations in the metal and electrical industry.


Cusanuswerk
The "Cusanuswerk" is the foundation for gifted students of the Catholic Church in Germany and supports especially gifted catholic students in all subject areas at scientific academic institutions, academic institutions for the fine arts and music, or technical colleges.


Evangelisches Studienwerk e.V. Villigst
The "Evangelische Studienwerk Villigst" is the foundation for gifted students of the German Evangelical Church. Students and doctoral student in all subjects may find financial support and a broad education program here.

ORGANISATIONS THAT FUND STUDY PERIODS ABROAD

Fulbright-Kommission
The "Fulbright-Kommission" offers scholarships to enable subject-related immersion and to supplement your studies at an American university, as well as experience the USA. The scholarships do not necessarily aim at achieving an American degree.


Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD)
The DAAD enables German students to spend study and research periods abroad at the best universities. It also funds the subject-related and personal qualification of foreign elite students at German universities and research centers.

Heinrich Hertz-Stiftung
The "Heinrich Hertz-Stiftung" is a foundation belonging to the state of Nordrhein-Westfalen which supports science and research through the international exchange of university academic staff and other researchers, including young researchers and especially qualified students via scholarships.


Erasmus- Program
The Erasmus-Program offers students at the RUB the opportunity to spend three to twelve months abroad in Europe and receive financial and organisational support. They may study at the host universities with which there is an Erasmus-cooperation agreement and needn’t pay tuition fees.

Aufstiegsstipendium
The program "Aufstiegsstipendium" is a gifted students program which funds people who have proven special talent and dedication in the areas education and work. It funds a first study program full-time or extra-occupationally at a state university or state-recognized institution. The program is part of the governments qualification initiative "advancement through education".
