International Cooperation

The Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering offers a variety of international research cooperation with partner universities.

For students

ERASMUS-Kooperationen

Toyohashi University of Technology

Vietnamese-German University

In the winter semester of 2009 the Master’s programme Computational Engineering was established at the Vietnamese-German University (VGU) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Since 2010, VGU-students are travelling regularly to Germany for research stays at Ruhr University Bochum. RUB students are welcome to travel to VGU to get an impression of what it’s like to study at a newly established university in an emerging Asian metropolis. For further information please contact the CompEng coordinator (Jörg Sahlmen).

For doctoral candidates

Moscow State University of Civil Engineering

In 2011, an exchange program for students between the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Moscow State University of Civil Engineering was initiated. The Moscow State University of Civil Engineering is one of the few research universities of the Russian Federation. As part of the exchange, students in both universities can collaborate on various scientific fields. The research topics are determined in close consultation with the corresponding faculties and departments involved. The first research themes are "GPU-based finite element simulation" and "numerical simulation of wind effects", which is supervised by the chairs of Wind Engineering and Fluid Mechanics (Prof. Höffer) and and Computer Science in Civil Engineering (Prof. König).

Tongji University

A cooperation agreement between the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering of Ruhr University Bochum and the College of Civil Engineering of Tongji University in Shanghai has been signed in 2012. The agreement includes PhD student exchange and joint workshops. Since 2012, two workshops have been organized within the Collaborative Research Center 837 “Interaction Modeling in Mechanized Tunneling”. For further information please contact the SFB 837 assistant coordinator (Jörg Sahlmen).

University of Cambridge

For doctoral candidates of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering of Ruhr University Bochum, it is possible to cooperate with the Innovation and Knowlege Centre of the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge, UK. For further information please contact the SFB 837 assistant coordinator (Jörg Sahlmen).
